What is Mobile Fingerprinting, and why do you need it?

If you’re an individual, a new employee, a licensed professional, or a business owner who is in the process of...

  • Starting a job with access to people’s personal, financial, or sensitive information
  • Getting licensed as a real estate agent or life insurance producer
  • Renewing your license for teaching, nursing, or childcare
  • Applying for a retail or liquor license for your business
  • Applying for a commercial driver's license
  • Applying for a concealed carry gun permit
  • Adopting or fostering a child

...then at some point in the process you will need to get professionally fingerprinted.

The Purpose of Fingerprinting

Fingerprinting is a means of verifying your identity and enabling an employer, government agency, or another party to confirm that you don’t have a criminal charge in your background that would disqualify you for the position, license, or permit that you’re applying for.

Why Setting a Fingerprinting Appointment Can Be a Challenge

If you’ve never scheduled an appointment to get fingerprinted before (and even if you have), figuring out where to go and what to do to get it done can be confusing, frustrating, and time-consuming.

For one thing, the agency requesting that you get fingerprinted will often leave it up to you to figure out what options are available, which are required, and how to get it done quickly and easily, so you run the risk of doing the wrong thing and having to start over.

Then there’s the inconvenience. Most county sheriff's offices provide fingerprinting services, but having to make an appointment in advance, get there, find parking, and wait in line for hours to get it done is a hassle.

How To Make Getting Fingerprinted Easy

Wouldn’t it be great if you could have a professional and friendly fingerprinting specialist walk you step-by-step through the process and then come to you to provide the right kind of fingerprinting at a time and place that works for your schedule?

That’s what a Mobile Fingerprinting service can do for you, and it’s what we do.

Mobile Fingerprinting is a convenient and cost-effective option for getting fingerprinted. A certified fingerprinting technician comes to your location at a time that works best for you.  You can schedule Mobile Fingerprinting services, for yourself, for your clients, or for your company or organization.

For more detailed information, see our blog article "How To Schedule an Appointment to Get Fingerprinted".

What kind of Mobile Fingerprinting services do we offer?

Ink

Ink fingerprinting is the simplest and most common way of collecting your fingerprints.

Here’s how it works:

The fingerprinting technician will capture your fingerprints by applying a special, easy-to-clean ink to your fingers, and then rolling them onto a fingerprint card, which has spaces for each of your fingers, on both hands. The technician will provide the cards, if you need them.

The process takes about 5 to 10 minutes to complete, depending on the number of cards.

Once your fingerprints have been captured, the technician will certify them by signing and dating the card. You’ll then finish filling out the information at the top of the card, and once it’s complete, you’ll mail it to the necessary address.

The results will usually be mailed back to you in about 4 to 6 weeks.

Live Scan

Live Scan is an electronic fingerprinting technology that makes capturing your fingerprints, getting them to the appropriate agency for review, and getting back the results faster and easier than the ink method.

Here’s what the Live Scan process typically looks like:

First, your technician will ask you for contact information and details about your physical description, such as your height, weight, and hair color. They’ll enter that information into a computer.

Once they verify your identity, the technician will then roll your fingers onto the screen of a special scanner, which will be connected to a computer that uses special software. Your fingerprints will be captured as electronic images and saved as a data file.

Because it’s electronic, the process is much simpler, and the images are clearer and rarely, if ever, rejected.

Once collected, Your fingerprints can be delivered to the receiving agency in two ways:

  1. Print-to-card: They can be printed onto an FD-258 card and then mailed. We can even electronically archive your data file so you can have additional copies printed later.

  2. Electronic transmission: Using special software, the data file containing your fingerprints can be electronically transmitted to the FBIFINRA, or the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)

The whole Live Scan fingerprinting process usually takes about 5 minutes or less.

Once your fingerprints have been reviewed, your results will be sent back within about 48 hours. The agency will either email the results to you or they’ll send you a link to log into a web portal where you can retrieve the results.
